Are Earthbones Easily Digested?Updated a year ago
Earthbones Digestibility
Right from the beginning, we have made digestibility a top priority in the design of earthbones. To achieve this, we carefully selected only a small number of highly digestible ingredients. In addition, we went the extra mile to ensure the safety and effectiveness of our bones by subjecting them to tests in an artificial stomach at the University of Illinois Department of Animal Sciences.
Rawhide Comparison
Products like rawhide are why we created Earthbones. Rawhide is treated with harsh chemicals that make them strong, but are also very difficult to digest and provide no nutritional benefit. Earthbones are designed and tested to be completely digestible.
However, even the most digestible bones carry a risk, though small, of choking - no chew or toy doesn't. Still, they are widely recommended by vets for the same reason people are encouraged to jog or ride their bike. Is there a risk of injury? Absolutely. But it is also part of a healthy lifestyle that brings so many benefits. In the same way, chewing is a healthy and fulfilling activity for many dogs that keeps their jaws, gums, and teeth strong while fighting periodontal disease.
How Do Earthbones Breakdown?
Our bones are designed to have a rough yet flexible structure, which enables your dog's teeth to penetrate the bone, while the coarse texture helps eliminate plaque. If the bones were too brittle, the teeth wouldn't be able to penetrate them, and if they were too soft, they wouldn't be effective at scraping away plaque. Your dog should be prepared to put in a good amount of effort to chew the bone, and how the bone breaks down will be determined by your dog's chewing style. Some dogs prefer to gnaw the bone down to a nub, while others attempt to break the bone into smaller fragments.
