Earthbones are produced in the United States, using primarily locally-sourced ingredients from North America. However, some of our favorite ingredients may not be available at the highest quality from domestic growers. Therefore, we partner with reputable suppliers abroad to source a few imported ingredients, namely Egyptian Parsley, Thai Tapioca, and Spanish Rosemary. These ingredients are obtained from carefully vetted suppliers located in countries with robust food safety standards. Everything else we use in our product is sourced within North America.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil should not be ingested by dogs or humans on its own. If you have ever used essential peppermint oil, you are aware that applying it to the skin creates a potent cooling effect, and ingesting it is not recommended. The concern with dogs and essential oils is that they may consume it in unsafe quantities by licking it. 

However, when mixed with food (as opposed to using it for essential oil therapy) and in appropriate amounts, peppermint oil is entirely safe. It is considered a Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) ingredient, approved for use in pet food by the AAFCO, the organization responsible for establishing pet food regulations in all 50 states.

Natural Flavors

The natural flavors in Earthbones are made from a proprietary blend of sunflower oils.

Citric Acid

We utilize citric acid as a natural preservative to ensure that the bones remain secure and fresh within the package. Numerous studies have demonstrated its beneficial properties, such as aiding nutrient absorption and enhancing food stability and safety. 

Rosemary

Earthbones have a very limited amount of rosemary. However, rosemary is healthy for your dog to eat, It also contains antioxidants that may prevent cancer and heart disease and is good for your dog's digestion, given its antimicrobial properties. Rosemary can also improve memory and mood.

Vegetable Glycerin

 We use vegetable glycerin because It is an all natural sweetener and preservative. Also, it is vital to the texture of Earthbones, it is used to bind the ingredients together, into a delicious chewy treat.

We completely understand your concern with making sure every ingredient your dog eats comes from a trustworthy source. 

While buying ingredients only from the United States does ensure a minimum level of confidence, the truth is even in the United States the regulations on pet food ingredients is pretty lax. We take the approach of buying ingredients from the best suppliers and auditing them above and beyond the legal requirements. 

That's why our manufacturing facility is SQF Level 2 certified which requires audits and testing of all ingredients in our supply chain. In the case of Thailand - they are the supplier for most of the world's Tapioca Starch, and we apply the same auditing procedure for suppliers there as domestically.
